December is Universal Human Rights Month
What are human rights? Human rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings - they are not granted by any state. These universal rights are inherent to us all, regardless of nationality, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status. They range from the most fundamental - the right to life - to those that make life worth living, such as the rights to food, education, work, health, and liberty. The best way we can celebrate Universal Human Rights Month is by working to find common ground with those around us who may not have the same background as we do. We are all born into the same world, we are all humans, and our different races, religions, beliefs, and cultures shoudln't divide us. December 10, Human Rights Day, is a global holiday that marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948. Article I of the Declaration states, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

We believe that Axiscare will really simplify your documentation and clock-in experience, not to mention presenting an easier way to get in contact with us and other caregivers using the included messaging features. Starting December 13th we will be using Axiscare to clock in and out of all home-based care shifts (Jeannette’s Staff). Eventually, Axiscare will replace Therap and T-sheets completely. However, for the week of December 13-17th, we will ask you to keep using Therap and Tsheets while we make sure all of the kinks get worked out. Please come to the December Monthly Huddle to attend the training on Axiscare and get all your questions answered. Reach out to Jeannette Garcia if you have questions in the meantime. Out of Bounds is a new Community Based Service that we, OPPO, developed. What we do year round is empower our clients to engage their community. We provide the service in Utah County, spanning from Salem to Bluffdale. With higher functioning clients, we keep the ratio small in order to provide amazing experiences in the community.

OPPO is now offering quarterly onsite CPR/First Aid/AED training through the American Red Cross. New employees are required to obtain these certifications within the first 90 days of employement. Renewals are due bi-anually (every 2 years). If you are unsure of your current certification status, please speak with your direct supervisor. Intermountain Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a support program that provides free, brief, confidential counseling; help with caregiver issues; and 24-hour crisis services. This program is available for you, your spouses or domestic partners and dependent children (under 26 years old). Supervisors can receive consultations about difficult employee situations, team building and workplace trainings.

Peter is a 22 years old chemistry student at Utah Valley University. He’s originally from Rochester, Michigan. He loves following sports news and analytics, and he really love to ski. His passion for helping others has also lead him to volunteering/ working in the healthcare field for the last two years. What he enjoys the most about working for OPPO is the opportunity to make a personal impact on the lives of others while strengthening his own interpersonal skills. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, he hopes to go to graduate school and chase a career in either chemistry or the medical field. Peter is much appreciated for his recent role with stepping in at the last minute to help attend to a young clinet in an emergency situation. Peter also returned to the office way past hours to help clean a big mess. Thank you for all of the excellence you bring to your role.
